| Croston is a picturesque
Lancashire village on the banks of the River Yarrow,
10 miles south of Preston, between Chorley and Southport
and close to the villages of Eccleston, Bretherton,
Mawdesley, Rufford and Euxton.
The Church of St Michael and All Angels stands at the
heart of the Conservation Area and the adjacent Croston
Old School is now a Community Resource Centre. Church
Street, where a cross erected in 1953 is believed to
mark the site of an ancient preaching cross, leads to
the well known local landmark of Town Bridge, built
in 1682, which spans the River Yarrow opposite the Grapes
public house. Further along Town Road the Village Green
is a focal point for village events such as Bastille
Day, which celebrates the twinning with Azay le Rideau
in France. Here also can be found two more popular public
houses, The Lord Nelson and The Wheatsheaf as well as
Fresco Fresco an Italian Restaurant and Cafe Rendezvous. Other village pubs include The Black Horse,
The Crown and, beside the Railway Station, The De Trafford
Arms. Shops such as Newsagent & Post Office, Chemist
and Grocery Stores provide most requirements without
venturing out of the village.
Local transport links and Motorway access make Croston
a convenient location to visit the coast and the cities
of Preston, Lancaster, Manchester and Liverpool as well
the attractive countryside and nearby Market Towns.
Relax in the rural surroundings or visit nearby attractions
to enjoy a varied and interesting stay.
