In recent years NSG's success has relied on it's technology base to provide solutions for a wide variety of nuclear waste management challenges. This has led to the formation of our Science and Technology Group, which utilises the scientific and technology expertise within the company to identify the root cause of problems, not only through empirical analysis and theoretical studies, but also by experiments, trials, and small and large scale testing.

This expertise is focused on radioactive waste management & decommissioning and delivers practical solutions using high calibre scientific and engineering 'know how'. Our skill base is wide and varied, enabling us to assemble a multi-discipline team from different technology backgrounds such as microwave technology, rheology, cement and polymer mechanics and chemistry, materials science, radiation protection, chemistry and physics.

Our many years of practical experience is supported by a high level of academic achievement with PhD's, Masters Degrees and degrees in chemical engineering, radiation protection and environmental engineering. Theories and ideas are developed and tested in our workshop laboratories before being translated into practical solutions for site and plant operations.

Within waste management we have solved problems associated with identifying, characterising, retrieving, conditioning, immobilising, and disposing of radioactive wastes. We have run programmes for the evaluation of pumping systems, waste forms, waste containers, materials and transport flasks. The solutions are delivered in various forms including studies, test programmes, laboratory investigations, sample and product evaluation and guidance notes.

The impact of human interfaces is also considered by carrying out ergonomic trials and operations, complete with dose assessments for process design and evaluation.
